I was impressed by the performances of the children presenting a play and singing about the slave trade, on the anniversary of its abolition. This is a school not only achieving today but constantly planning for the future.
I recently visited Tidemill Primary School in my Lewisham Deptford constituency. Tidemill has been transformed in recent years from a struggling school in to one of the best in the country. During the visit I attended a special school assembly to celebrate Black History Month. I also met with the Chair of Governors, Ami Ibitson, and Headteacher Mark Elms to discuss plans to improve the school's facilities as part of a local redevelopment project. These plans include extending the Wavelengths swimming pool, providing a new library and a new state of the art building for the school.
