The development is part of the East London Line Extension project to bring the underground line further south to Crystal Palace and West Croydon. Residents expressed their concerns regarding the noise from the site, loss of trees and vegetation, potentially dangerous dust particles and cracks appearing in homes which some have blamed on the work. Following my visit I wrote to Transport for London asking them to investigate these specific issues and urging a closer working relationship and more consultation with the residents affected.
Many people are looking forward to having the East London Line extended, but in the meantime a lot of people who live beside the track are suffering. I have the highest praise for the engineering expertise on site, but managers have to appreciate that the noise and dust caused by their operations can blight the lives of local people. I am determined to see that more is done to tackle these problems.
