On 7th December I convened one of the regular round table meetings I initiated on the redevelopment of Deptford Station. The meeting heard how real progress is now being made on the project.
This progress includes the welcome announcement that Network Rail and Lewisham Council are working closely to secure the necessary funding, which has been a major stumbling block for the project to date.
Early plans for the site during the interim period were also unveiled by the developers, Cathedral Group, at the meeting. They plan to move a modified and decorated train carriage into the site to act as the developer's headquarters, as well as a public café. There are also plans to use the open space created during the redevelopment as a market and as a venue for cultural and arts events.
