Today I welcomed the news that planning permission has been given by Lewisham Council for the redevelopment of Deptford Station.
Several years ago, after constant complaints from residents about the state of Deptford Station, I brought together a group of stakeholders, including the Council, the rail operators and Deptford High Street Traders to push for improvements. We have worked really hard to bring about a vision for a new station and the regeneration of the High Street. I am absolutely delighted that the plans are now coming to fruition.
Now planning permission has been granted we can make this vision of an excellent new station, which will also result in getting the historic carriage ramp brought back into use, a reality.
Network Rail and Lewisham Council will now take forward the designs for the station, with the work scheduled to begin on site in 2009.
