“The Government claimed to have listened; now we need to make sure they respond accordingly. The vast majority of healthcare workers and organisations are opposed to the proposed changes and fear for their effect on the NHS. Particularly worrying would be the introduction of competition within the NHS and removing the legal duty on the NHS to provide a ‘comprehensive health service’, equal to all.”
I'm really impressed by the effort made by constituents to get to grips with the legislation and make their views known. The government is having to change - but we must keep up the pressure to make sure they finally abandon the plans that threatened to kill off the NHS forever.
The petition calls for a halt to the radical reforms being imposed by the government, as they:
- Risk breaking up the health service and handing it to private healthcare companies
- Have not listened to the real experts - doctors, nurses and patients - when they have given warnings about these plans
- May cut beds, wards, doctors or nurses - implicating patient care
