This change risks causing homelessness and increasing the number of people sleeping rough in the borough. It will be particularly damaging for vulnerable people, such as those with physical and mental health problems, pregnant women and those who have left abusive relationships.
The cut is unlikely to generate the savings envisaged by the Coalition, as additional costs will be incurred through repeat homelessness, reoffending and other associated problems.
Increasingly, young people are coming to my surgeries in despair because they cannot find accommodation. I cannot imagine what will happen if hundreds more lose the homes they have.
