On Friday the 27th of June I hosted the Deptford First Summer Tea Party at Lewisham College's Deptford Campus. The event enabled local groups and activists to meet, share their experiences and to make new contacts.
It was attended by community groups and activists, businesses, Lewisham council representatives and Lewisham College Staff.
It was wonderful to catch up with some familiar faces, as well as to make contact with new groups and hear about many of the exciting developments going on in the constituency.
I am grateful to the staff and students of Lewisham College for their hospitality and I know all who attended the event welcomed the opportunity to hear about the college's plans for the future, which include the complete redevelopment of the Deptford Campus by 2012.
Deptford First was originally set up as 'Deptford into the 80s'. It has fostered a network of community leaders throughout the Lewisham Deptford constituency and has provided pump-priming for small community organisations and helped individuals in acute need.
