Today I took part in a Westminster Hall debate on the future of library services. I praised Lewisham Council’s running of libraries, including £6.5million of investment under Labour and the development of 3 new additional community libraries.
Speaking in a debate on the Comprehensive Spending review yesterday, I described the Coalition Government’s recently announced cut in housing benefit as "a catastrophe in the making – for my people in Lewisham, for London as a whole and for this great capital city."
Today I was officially 'sworn in' as a Member of Parliament; making the affirmation:
"I, Joan Ruddock, do solemnly, sincerely, and truly declare and affirm that I will be faithful and bear true allegiance to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth, her heirs and successors, according to law."
I am delighted to announce that my commitment to equality has been recognised by Stonewall, the largest gay, lesbian and bisexual right charity in Europe.

The Climate Change, Energy and Planning Bills have all become Acts of Parliament. These Acts of Parliament will transform the way we live.
