![]() Today Heidi Alexander (MP for Lewisham East) and I challenged David Cameron at Prime Minister's Question Time. ![]() Speaking in a debate on the Comprehensive Spending review yesterday, I described the Coalition Government’s recently announced cut in housing benefit as "a catastrophe in the making – for my people in Lewisham, for London as a whole and for this great capital city." ![]() Yesterday I secured a promise from Iain Duncan Smith, the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, that a full Jobcentre Plus service would be kept in Deptford if a suitable building could be found. ![]() 11,425 families in the Lewisham Deptford constituency currently receive child benefit to help meet the costs of bringing up 20,385 children. I am backing the charity campaign 'Make Child Benefit Count', which calls for an increase in child benefit so that all children are paid the same amount. |
