Last Friday I helped launch Deptford Green School's 2008 Community Survey. I spoke at a special assembly to launch the survey, highlighting the importance of politicians pro-actively seeking and listening to the views of those they represent.
Today I attended an event at 10 Downing Street with Nadesha Reid, a seventeen-year-old Health and Social Care student at Lewisham College. Nadesha had to opportunity to meet the Prime Minister at the reception to celebrate young people who play an active role in their community.
Lewisham Council and Croydon Council will share £79.5 million of funding for a Private Finance Initiative street lighting scheme.
Today I supported the grand opening of the Deptford Action Group for the Elderly's (DAGE) new re-use shop and mini 'pop-in' facility.
Today I visited Lewisham College to see the work being done by staff and pupils. During my visit to the college's Deptford campus, I toured the sports facilities and met with Paralympic athlete Tanni Grey Thompson who was filming a promotional video for British sports.
Lewisham Council has been awarded financial support from the Government's Community Energy Efficiency Fund to help pensioners and vulnerable households keep warm during winter. The Council was awarded £40,000 to help with their Energy Action Zone project.
