I was joined by Labour councillors who will act as patient champions and the last line of defence for the NHS, calling on local leaders to:
- Protect the NHS's founding values
- Prevent postcode lotteries
- Guard against longer waits
- Promote collaboration over competition
- Put patients before profits
By joining forces with health professionals at a local level we can resist the drive towards the rationing of treatment and the encroachment of charges we are already starting to see.
The Tory-led Government's NHS reorganistaion is already causing real harm to patients and is wasting £20.7 million in Lewisham. Longer waits for operations and chaos in A & E have returned, operations and treatments are being restricted as the postcode lottery worsens and thousands of nursing jobs are being axed.
