The campaign, a coalition of over 200 charities, is demanding that world leaders assembling for the G8 meeting next month in Northern Ireland take action to end world hunger.
I have received a great deal of correspondence on the 'IF' campaign and I know it is something that many of my constituents feel very strongly about.
I met with a group of constituents, including Sister Loretta Madigan of the Faithful Companions of Jesus religious order in New Cross. The visit was part of an event organised by CAFOD, the Catholic aid agency, for which Sr Loretta is a campaigner and volunteer.
It was great to meet with Sr Loretta and the rest of the group to hear more about the campaign. I would like to thank CAFOD for helping to organising the event.
Sr Loretta said:
"I was very grateful to Joan for welcoming us to Westminster, and taking the time to have such an interesting discussion. It is great to know she is willing to engage on every issue of interest to her constituents, from local problems at home to some of the biggest challenges facing the world."
