Revised Feed-In Tariff

31/10/2011

Caroline Flint MP, Labour's Shadow Energy and Climate Change Secretary, said ahead of the Government’s announcement of the revised Feed-in tariff scheme:

"If the Government think major energy policies should be dictated by phoney stories, rumour and spin, they are out of touch.  The Feed-in tariff changes, which could cause chaos in the solar industry and affect tens of thousands of jobs, should be announced in the Commons Chamber, so MPs can hold the Government to account.

“It is essential that the Government does not undermine the growth of the renewable industry, which is currently less than 5% of the size of the solar industry in Germany.  Any significant reduction in the feed in tariffs will further undermine investment in a industry that is already frustrated by mixed messages from Government.

“The internecine strife at the very top of Government between Huhne and Osborne has left their energy policy beset with uncertainty, while the UK’s leading role in investment in new energy sources declines.  Two years ago, we were third in the world in renewable investment, today we are 13th behind Brazil and India.  The public are crying out for Government leadership and a plan for jobs and growth – when all they get is the Government caving in to the vested interest of the energy giants; and casting a huge shadow over jobs and investment in the UK.”
