Maria Eagle MP, Labour's Shadow Transport Secretary, has written to Justine Greening MP, the new Secretary of State for Transport, urging her to look again at the decision made by her predecessor to award the Thameslink contract to a company that will build the trains in Germany.
Maria Eagle said:
"I welcome Justine Greening to her new role and urge her to order an immediate review of the Thameslink train contract.
"New leadership at the Department for Transport provides an opportunity to look again at this decision. It's time to provide long term backing for the British train manufacturing sector instead of pursuing an out of touch and out of date transport policy which sells British jobs down the river."
