Closure of Remploy Factories

6/5/2012

Liam Byrne, the Shadow Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, has written an open letter to Iain Duncan Smith MP stating that he should issue a written apology to everyone involved with Remploy.

To: Iain Duncan Smith MP
Secretary of State for Work and Pensions

Sunday 6 May 2012

Dear Iain,

You should be supporting disabled people who want to work hard and get on, but instead you are reported to have 'sneered' at Remploy workers, who like millions of other people across the country are worried about their jobs and their futures.

It is utterly unacceptable for you to accuse disabled workers of doing nothing more than sitting around and occasionally putting the kettle on.

With the country sliding back into a recession made in Downing Street the government must do more to support work but your comments demonstrate a staggering contempt for the hard working britons you don't deem to have the right kind of job.

You should apologise in person to Mark Holloway and Julie Haynes from Remploy's Barking factory, and you should issue a written apology to everyone involved with Remploy, and to the many more people you have offended with your ignorant, heartless and foolish comments.

Yours Sincerely

Liam Byrne MP
Shadow Secretary of State for Work and Pensions
