Labour Unveils New Supporters Network

Supporters of the Labour Party will now be able to join a new Labour Supporters Network under plans agreed today as part of the Refounding Labour package.

 
Labour recognises that political parties alone cannot make the changes we need either in Britain as a whole or in our local communities. Our new Supporters Network will reach out to all those people who wish to improve their local communities and country.

Tackling Debt Problems - Ed Miliband

Ed Miliband MP, Leader of the Opposition, said today that the only way to tackle debt problems across the world is by the getting growth we need:

 
"The Prime Minister is quite good at lecturing other people on getting their problems sorted out and it’s true that the Eurozone needs to sort out its debt problems. But the only way we’re going to tackle the debt problems across the world is by getting the growth that we need. And all the Prime Minister seems to be offering is to say 'I’ve got austerity here at home, I’m going to now export it abroad'. But when the recovery here in Britain was choked off last autumn, well before the global problems of recent months, that’s not a solution to the problems the world faces.

Defence Procurement Review

Today Labour publishes an independent report produced for Labour’s Shadow Defence Team, ‘Ideas for Future UK Defence Procurement’.


This is the first piece of detailed work to be produced from the Labour Party’s official policy review process, led by Liam Byrne MP, which is reporting to Ed Miliband MP, Leader of the Labour Party, in 2012.

The review was set up by Jim Murphy MP, Labour's Shadow Secretary of State for Defence, and Michael Dugher MP, Labour's Shadow Defence Minister, last year. An independent Review Team was established and this final study will be submitted to the Labour Party to inform the work of the Shadow Defence Team as they produce a comprehensive review of defence policy.
