Pre Budget Report
The Pre Budget was yesterday and the Chancellor set out our three point plan to:
1) secure the recovery and go for growth
2) take tough choices necessary to halve the deficit in four years
3) protect vital frontline public services
Among the announcements were:
• £200 million to improve energy efficiency and tackle fuel poverty by: offering £400 for up to 125,000 households to upgrade their old boilers to the latest efficient models with a greener boiler incentive; and providing extra resources for Warm Front to help 75,000 of the most vulnerable households with heating and insulation;
• £5 million to fund extended opening hours at Citizens Advice Bureau in 2010-11, helping an additional 300,000 people.
• Spending on Sure Start Children’s Centres will be maintained in line with inflation. Sufficient funding will be provided to police authorities to enable them to maintain the number of police officers and community support officers, and spending on overseas aid will remain on track to reach 0.7 per cent of Gross National Income (GNI) by 2013.
